Introducing ASD

What Is Autism?

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that results in a range of difficulties with social communication, social interaction and restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviours or interests. It is classified as a spectrum due to the wide range of different strengths and challenges a person can present with.

ASD is something that a person is born with and is a lifelong diagnosis but can present differently at different times of their life. A diagnosis of ASD opens doors to additional support, and can provide positive confirmation and reassurance for parents and children alike.

Useful information for carers

At Wellbeing, we understand that the assessment process is just the tip of the iceberg, and that your experience with ASD or ADHD related behaviours may have started years ago. We have put together resources for parents and carers to help you support your child on a day-to-day basis, as well as breaking down the different stages of getting an ADOS assessment.

Support for Young People

Useful information for children

It is important that children going in for any assessments are able to access resources that explain how they might be feeling, or to reassure them that there is nothing scary about coming in to see one of our team. This information is presented in a simple visual format that can be shown to them by a parent or carer to manage expectations and reduce anxiety.
